Dr. Sheikh Riazuddin obtained Ph.D. in Animal Physiology from Reading University, England. He worked for post-doctoral research at Brandies University (1973-75), at Johns Hopkins University (1975-77), and at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm Sweden (1978). He is the founding director of Center for Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) in Lahore.
Dr. Riazuddin’s research interests are spread across DNA repair with Nobel Laureate Larry Grossman at Johns Hopkins University, and restriction endonucleases with Rich Roberts, Nobelist at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, New York and transgenic plants with Milt Gordon and Gene Nester. Presently, he is studying molecular and genetic basis of hearing and vision impairment in Pakistani population as joint project with Tom Friedman at NIDCD/NIH and Fielding Hejtmancik at NEI/NIH. His present interests include promotion of collaboration between different institutions and scientists as a means for better understanding of each other and lessening the tension in the troubled world.
