Prof. S.B. Sullia (Shanker Bhat Sullia), former Head of the Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology, Bangalore University, earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India, and later pursued his post-doctoral research at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Botany, University of Madras, Chennai, India and State University of New York, USA. He was the recipient of the Brown-Hazen award for research work on the mechanism of action of the antibiotic cycloheximide, at the State University of New York, Syracuse, USA. As a member of the Faculty of Bangalore University, Prof. Sullia has guided more than a dozen students for Ph.D. and has published 90 original research papers, 10 reviews and 10 books.
Prof. Sullia was the President, Mycological Society of India, President, Association of Microbiologists of India (Bangalore Chapter), President, Microbioforum, and Member of the Executive committee of Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh. He received the Shome Memorial Lecture award and the Agnihothrudu Memorial Lecture Award, by the Mycological Society of India. Currently, Prof. Sullia is working as an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Bangalore University, Bangalore, India. |
