Dr. T. M. Manjunath

Dr. T. M. Manjunath is an agricultural scientist with over four decades of research and executive experience in the areas of biological pest control, integrated pest management (IPM) and agricultural biotechnology. He has been a consultant to several national and international organizations like the FAO for developing technical programs. He is an author of over 100 research papers and reviews, and two books. He has been an invited lead speaker at a number of national and international conferences on plant protection and agricultural biotechnology. A Ph.D. in agricultural entomology from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, he worked as an entomologist at the erstwhile Commonwealth Institute of Biological Control from 1962 to 1976 and then at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, from 1976-81. He later joined Pest Control (India) Limited to establish their Bio-Control Research Laboratories (BCRL) - India’s first commercial insectary - at Bangalore in 1981. He was its Vice President from 1981-1997. Dr. Manjunath joined Monsanto in January 1998 and served as the Director (R&D) of its Monsanto Research Centre in Bangalore up to June 2004. At present, he is a consultant in agricultural biotechnology and IPM. He serves on several technical committees constituted by DBT, ICAR, several universities and other organizations focusing on issues related to policies, strategies, biosafety and education related to agriculture. |
